I was a teenager when I first visited Canberra, Australia's National capital. The thing that I always remember about Canberra is the "Symmetry" of the place. From the natural symmetry provided by the peaks of Black Mountain and Mount Ainslie, that sit atop each side of Lake Burley Griffin and watch over the city. To the built environment and the balanced roads and roundabouts that encircle the Parliamentary district.
Canberra just seems to be perfectly curated against this equilibrium wherever you look. It's this balance that was the inspiration for this small photo-challenge I set myself when returning to Canberra recently on a family holiday.
Before dawn on a a Winter's morning is the perfect time to capture the reflections that are cast across the Lake. Despite the temperature being below zero, the stillness of the air and water made the early start worthwhile. I was able to capture some nice frames of Parliament house, Black Mountain and the Telstra Tower and the National Museum. All playing with the theme of symmetry, through reflection.
